Indiana Innovation Institute is Changing the Model of Applied Research

The Indiana Innovation Institute (IN3) is changing the model of an applied research institute. We believe that innovation comes from a variety of places and from people who work in government, industry and academia. We have assembled the best and brightest in those areas to develop research and technology that can be applied in a different, faster, more efficient and cost effective way.

INNOVATIVE – An all-star group of leaders on a mission to innovate

A hand-picked all-star team of innovators is driving applied research to real solutions that make a difference in people’s lives. From its inception, IN3 has had the full support of Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb and the leaders of some of the top research universities in the nation, Purdue University President Mitch Daniels and Indiana University President Dr. Michael McRobbie. Military leaders like Dr. Brett Seidle, the technical director for the third largest naval installation in the nation, Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane, is our Naval Sea Systems Command Liaison. Rounding out our innovative approach are also top leaders from industry including Rolls-Royce, TASUS Corporation and Cook Medical and from regional economic development organizations such as Regional Opportunity Initiatives (ROI) and Radius Indiana.

IN3’s team is led by General Gene Renuart, USAF (Retired), Chairman and CEO. His Air Force career culminated as Commander, NORAD and U.S. Northern Command after nearly 39 years of distinguished service. The IN3 team is also comprised of technical, scientific and business leaders that know the inner workings of government, industry and academia to make sure IN3 is always pushing the pace of innovation.

STREAMLINED – A trim and agile structure speeds technology development

By bringing government, industry and academia to the same table, our streamlined process allows for a faster, flexible, financially feasible approach. Gone are the days of bureaucracy where an innovative and important project can’t get completed because of all the red tape or cumbersome processes that slow it down. By having access to the top leaders in these areas and researchers committed to innovation, IN3 is able to move projects, like trusted microelectronics, to completion while the need is still real.

CONNECTED – A connection to top laboratories, equipment, research facilities and star talent

Getting VIP access to billions of dollars in operational assets connects you to award winning researchers and star talent working hard to get you a product or solution that impacts people’s lives. IN3 is connected to resources in government, industry and academia that speed the process of innovation. A few are listed below, but visit our Resources page to learn more about our connections.

  • Birck Nanotechnology Center – Discovery Park – Purdue University
  • IU School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering – Indiana University
  • Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane)
